Dear Pete, Laura and Petey- July 1 2001
Thank you so much for helping to make our little getaway perfect! The guesthouse is wonderful! You have done so much to make it comfortable. We loved the beaches and picking cherries and Cranes. But we just loved hanging out and chasing bunnies and going through the cemetary. And we really loved the gelato & sorbetto! WOW!
The girls say that this was the best part of the trip. Thanks for your warm hospitality in making us feel so welcome and your generosity in sharing your little house and a small piece of your days with us!
Love, George, Monique, Olivia, Emily, Sophia & #4 – Houston TX

Laura, Pete and Petey:
This weekend I turned 35 years old. I was feeling depressed for the past two months over it. Coming here with my closest friends and enjoying them, their energy, their souls and this adorable house has cured me. I am now happy to be 35… If I changed anything in my past, I would nothave been here; and that I would not be able to give up. Thanks for being such warm souls. The house was Great, the cherry picking and the ambiance.
I wish you the best of the best. This has been a weekend in my life that I will never, ever forget. The best!
Love, energy and power to you. Angel 7-21-66
P.S The Gelato was Great! The flowers were a very cute touch And the cinnamon buns were perfect.

Ahhh! Sanctuary in the middle of the night after a long drive from Detroit to Chicago, to here! I'm surprised I found it in the dark, but the guest house was a welcome sight after being on the road all day. David Bowie was fantastic, I'm so glad I went. I'm looking forward to my Continued solitude here on the west coast.
Had a relaxing morning at the Pier Cove beach, (thanks Laura for the suggestion) and shopped my brains out treasure hunting for antiques. Topped the day off by hanging out with you three, Jerry and Bubba on your porch. I know I keep saying it, but Petey is the cutest!!! Off in search of more bounty on my way back to Detroit.
Thanks for Everything! I had a very pleasant stay. If you find yourselves on the "East side' look me up. September through May you can contact me on-line at work: pmontgomery @…..

Pete, Laura, Petey,
Thank you so much, we needed this relaxing weekend. The west side of Michigan is awesome. We had so much fun & a chance to see a lot of sights. We went on the Kewadin tour, rode the Star of Saugatuck, ate at the Kalico Kitchen (great down home cookin') The menu is so funny I had to take one back home to show all my hillbilly family. Su Casa has the best mexican food I have ever had. It was cool watchin Rick & Pat eat them oysters in a half shell. (thanx) Your fruit orchard is the bomb. I love the old tree next to your house. All the history this place has is just so neat. Your ice cream rocks. Our stay here was perfect. The gladiolas were a perfect touch. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Thoughts as we're packing up to leave: from Judy, Allen, Maria, Stan and Patricia – We had a great time here! The cottage was very comfy, the gelato was great! And the beach was good. Just too bad there was an east wind for a couple days.
Thanks for the a.c. unit, Pete – we used it one night when we were playing scrabble & it got hot. Thanks Laura, for the lovely white gladiolas. Everyone commented how beautiful they were.
And Petey turned two while we were here – happy birthday, Petey!
We'll head back to the city both relaxed and renewed. We hope to come again.
Oh: the jacuzzi tub was a big hit too! Especially with Maria!!
Thanks so much – Patricia & Stan (Grand Rapids, Mi)

Dear Pete & Laura & Petey,
Thank you for providing my daughter with a special "retro" place where they could surprise me on my 50th birthday. All four of us enjoyed the coziness. We laughed and danced and talked till we were silly. The fresh sunflowers on the kitchen table and the blackberries in the front yard were extra special. The gelato was delicious! Lindsay really had a great time planning this event. God bless America!

Dear Pete, Laura and Petey (too bad we didn't get to meet you too),
Thank you so much for making our weeekend in Michigan so great! Steve and I love everything, it was so homey and comfortable! And our visits to Saugatuck, Douglas and Holland were wonderful shopping and dining (especially the blueberry strudel at Crane's - fantastic!)
Pete - thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to sit with us and answer all of our questions! Your gelato is out of this world and the cafe concepts you are offering are very exciting! Thanks again for sending us home with a trunk full of samples - it was totally unexpected and we truly apppreciate it - we will enjoy every last bite!! Steve has some bread for you to enjoy!
Have a wonderful holiday season and we hope to talk to you again soon! Take care.

Taking lots of info on Saugatuck back to family and friends in Detroit. Thanks Laura for everything, we especially liked the antique show! Look me up if you're ever on the East Side of the state.

Thank you for allowing us into your home. Richard and I had a wonderful time at Douglas and getting to know your family and friend. Pete we love the gelato and would be proud to sell it in the Omaha area. This trip has been helpful on getting us started on the business plan and coming up with the right product mix. Petey you are a cool little boy; we had fun watching you play and seeing your neat room!

I hope that we may have the occasion to visit you again in the near future and of course should your travels bring you close to southern Wisconsin you must let us return your generous favors.

Thank you so much for providing such a wonderful place for us to stay! I loved the trip back to my childhood and the boys now think my era was pretty cool!

Dear Pete and Laura, May 21
I don't know if I can fully express our thanks and appreciation for you agreeably overwhelming hospitality. When we left for Michigan, I was steeling myself for what I thought was going to be a somewhat boring visit to Michigan - we only agreed to go as it was an oppurtunity to spend time with Libby.
What a complete and delightful surprise it was to meet clever, articulate, talented and passionate Palazzolo's. It was so, so kind of you , Pete, to take the time to drive us around the residential areas and give us an orientation and, Laura your personal touches in the guesthouse made it feel completely like home.
Thank you so much for dinner, libations and most of all the oppurtunity to get to know you. We hope this visit was just the beginning of many more to come.
With fondest regards, Kevin Karl & Stephen Bright

Laura, Pete & Petey,
We had a great Parent getaway. Beautiful weather, beautiful city it was so relaxing. We picked cherrys-that was fun & we picked a lot! We went to the shops in town, the Star of Saugatuck, went to eat at the Kaliko Kitchen they had good food, the menu was something we laughed about the whole time. But that Mexican placeSu Casa (something like that) is the best food around & cheap too, Unbelievably good for the shack that it's in, this is just an awesome place Your ice cream is out of this world! I wish we could buy it back home! You guys have the loveliest guest home, it has everything, I wouldn't change a thing! Me & husband are so glad we came here it's a nice getaway from the 3 kids we have. I think we are going to try to make it a yearly thing We feel so good we deserve it. Thank you so much for letting us stay in your cozy little house we had such a great time!

Dear Laura, Pete & Petey,
We arrived Detroit at the 24 of June. We stay there for only two nights. The next city we want to visit on our trip through Michigan was "Saugatuck".
It was not easy to find a hotel or a bed & breakfast accommodation. A very nice woman in a hotel said that she knows Pete and Laura and that they have a nice guesthouse. She calls Pete and he picks us up and brings us to that really awesome place. We saw it and we love it.
At first we want to stay for 5 nights. But we enjoy it so much and we stay for another couple days.
We enjoy the surrounding and the silence and of course the hospitality from Laura and Pete. We also enjoy a wonderful Mexican breakfast and a great dinner. Thank you again!!!
We love to relax in the wonderful great "garden", to walk to the beach, we enjoy the lake and the shops and the atmosphere in Saugatuck and the cities around. Pete said, that we are the first international guests. We come from Germany. The reason we came here is the wedding of our cousin in Traverse City. When we start our trip in Germany, we thought that this wedding would be the highlight of our vacation.
But just now we are sure that one of the best thing in the three weeks of our stay in Michigan was the fate to meet Laura, Pete and their really nice son, Petey.
Sorry for our English, but we hope you understand the meaning of our written words.
We really hope to stay in touch!
God bless you all and thanks again!

Laura, Pete and Petey too -
Thanks for a lovely stay - we didn't use the pull-out sofa. but did use extra pillows in the closet.
The treats were wonderful - everyone enjoyed.
We'd like to come back again in the off-season when we're not so rushed. This was very relaxing.
Thanks again, Lisa & Charles Ham

Pete, Laura & Petey,
Your cottage is so quaint and cozy. The vintage decor is clean, unique and refreshing. Our stay here over the weekend let us recharge our batteries, enjoy our friends & see all the sights . We ewent to the wine tasting at Fennvalley (awesome!) the pie tasting at Cranes (delicious) and of course shopping in Saugatuck.
Thank you for all the gelato. We enjoyed tasting the various flavors.
Hope you find homes for the 2 kittens. Petey is so cute. I'm sure he'll learn lots more from the tooth fairy for proper brushing.
We plan on making this an annual vacation, so please keep the first weekend of October open for us. Also we'll be back with our family and friends over the summer.
Thanks, Amy, Mary, Kristi, Gabriel

To Laura, Pete and Petey too August 2004 - our wonderful hosts -our many thanks for a grand time. Our time here was the perfect antidote for the crazy busy time we've both had at work this summer - we caught up on reading aall the magazines that have been piling up at home, we walked through your lovely orchard and envied your wonderful life out here (!) we watched some of the olympics and now we head back to Chicago rested and renewed. So, thanks! (and special thanks for helping make Jasons 29th b-day a smash - he was so tickled by the card and yummy scones & arrangement - you guys are great!)
Happy birthdays and anniversary to you all! Jason Schrieber and Jason Loper

July 4th, 2005 Dear Laura, Pete and Petey,
I think Chafe said it best when he said, "Everything is great everywhere all the time."as we had dinner in the yard and I think it's fair to say we don't say things like that back at home.* Sitting at the kitchen table yesterday I too uttered such a sentiment - I said to Anne "Ithink we should come here for all vacations for the rest of our lives," & she agreed and from this point on over the weekend we just referred to your cottage as "Our vacation house." So - feel free to continue renting to other people but know that in our minds no such thing will be taking place.
Your gelato is rad
You kid is as sweet as your gelato, just about the most cute little man on the planet. Petey rules.
Your cottage is overall chill and digable
"Everything is great everywhere, all the time"
We really couldn't have asked for a nicer weekend: berry picking, exploring, trampoline-ing, gelato eating, hangin' with Petey, it was just the best. That perfect weather deposit really paid off too! I would say we'll tell all of our friends about you, but that might impede our coming here whenever we want, so you're our little secret, ok? Thanks for the incredible hospitality!

Tuesday, July 05, 2005 Independence Day
Sorry for the break, kids - " I was out living life! Not to worry, I'm back in front of the computer now. (There's a cartoon in this week's New Yorker with a picture of a new couple and the guy is thinking, "I wonder what she's like online.") Ben and I spent the holiday weekend at our new country house in Michigan with our friends the Hensleys - of Ruby fame - and it was pretty awesome. Okay, fine, it's not really ours, but we got the actual owners to agree that it would be fine with us if they continued to rent it out for us, but that from now on we would be considering it our second home. It's pretty much the cutest thing you've ever seen. It's like a playhouse, but full height and with two bedrooms, decorated entirely in painfully adorable fifties modern and with a kitchen stocked with gelato, which is the... other owner's primary business. (It should go without saying that the gelato is unbelievably delicious.) Oh and it's five minutes from the beach and a gabillion antique stores and there's also twenty-seven acres and an orchard and pretty much an unlimited supply of mulberries and black raspberries for the picking, out of which Anne made a delicious galatte (sp?). The best bonus, though, in my estimation, was Petey Palazzolo, the four-and-a-half-year-old who lives with his parents in the main house on the property. He and Ruby were of course new best friends, and he is about the cutest kid ever, although bear in mind I do say that a lot. He's got ginormous blue eyes and wears striped t-shirts and the greatest smile and he starts pretty much every new clause with - "¦um, and you know what?" He let us bounce on his trampoline which was a total blast but now my entire body aches. If you haven't ever bounced, it's a surprisingly good aerobic workout. I tell you, I don't know what more anyone would want in life besides what I already have, except for a kid (although about this Ruby says, "Yeah, so you can be annoyed!"), because I feel thoroughly charmed, and so grateful that we can afford to go away for a weekend with good friends to a place as magical as this. The Hensleys are too cool to even get into. The fact that Anne is a fantastic cook is - it's almost redundant, if not unnecessary. I would eat olive loaf on Wonder Bread with these people. Anne and I had several great talks (as usual) and when we came back from a berry-picking walk on the property she reported to Chafe that we were two smart bitches who had it all figured out. (Inasmuch as we know we don't have it all figured out.)
